Home to one of the toughest enduro races on earth!
Today we're having a look at Lesotho and what's on the adventure menu here from the nuts at heart. And there is something for the more chilled traveller. Lesotho has it all, the people, nature, adrenalin and pony trekking. These are the adventures waiting for you.
Transkei to Lesotho, so similar but yet so extremely different. From one happy people to the next this park is all the same... The building style is much different where the Xhosa people built there hut from clay bricks and thatch. The Basotho people build with rock, wire mesh and sink roofs. From the moment you enter Lesotho until the day you leave you know that you are now in a whole other world so to speak. The scenery is huge mountainsides with deep valleys much bigger and higher than that of the Transkei hills. The Sheppard's and farming style is of a much different manner to the Transkei as well, but you will have to come see for yourself.
Some of the biggest attractions here is the pony trekking over the mountains as well as hiking and mountain biking trails they - have the legendary Semonkong Falls, dropping 196m. And yes you can come abseil this beauty. Some other extreme sports offered in and around the mountains here is skiing, paragliding and climbing. Here you can discover the ancient trails of the giants that roamed these mountains some 200 million years ago. Yes the dinosaurs where actually here, and they left there footprints here to prove it. Also a much loved destination for bird watchers and fishermen alike.
But for me as you can see from the photos above Lesotho is about one of the world's most anticipated enduro races " Roof of Africa ". This is a three day enduro testing for even the toughest of the tough. Definitely on my list of things to do before I'm 35. There is just something about going super fast, pushing your limits, being and doing all you can do every day. I have not discovered much of Lesotho in person but you can be assured I will be out there in the near future to do it from top to bottom and round again. We only stopped off here as a pit stop for the day from Transkei on the way to Mozambique.
Lesotho is definitely on my list of places to go back to, as I could easily call it home for a few months. To really soak up the culture and people as it's right up my alley for thing to do and see.
So if you are a adventure operator and you need staff for some time, give me a call I'd be glad to be there ASAP to fill the spot. ;)
Tomorrow I'll take you trough my experience of Mozambique
Peace be the journey
